Although there are many orchid books, many of them are based on pictures from nurseries, and details about habitats are often lacking. If you encounter a wild orchid in blossom, take a picture first and then kindly look around you. Is the plant facing north or south? How high up in the tree? Which tree? If you can not ID the tree, simply state if it is inside a deciduous forest or an evergreen forest. What orchid is it, or simply submit the photo for us to ID. What is the elevation? Which date and exact location? We respect protection efforts and we keep all locations classified, only sharing with the scientific community.

We need these data to write species sheets, and to successfully transplant orchids into the Orchid Ark woodland and later (10-20 years from now) back to the national parks.
