Nice shot - I haven't seen this species yet, hopefully on my next visit to KK or Phu Khieo.

Its a frequent visitor to the hides owned by "Nueng" at KKC. Not far from Lung Sin and the other hides.

I know of the 'Lung Sin' hide and one at 'Baan Song Nok' - where are the hides by 'Nueng' you mentioned? I wouldn't mind taking a look when I pass by next time.

To find Nuengs hides is a bit difficult. Basically if you are coming from the dam and the main headquarters you continue straight until you are approaching the army camp and then you turn left. You go up and over the hill until you come to the crossroads where you would turn left to Ban Maka resort but here you turn right. Continue straight passing two signs on your right for Lung Sins Hides until you reach the village where Lung Sin lives, after the village he has a sign for one more hide on the right and you keep going for another I kilometer until you reach the next small village. Here's where it gets tricky, there is a left turn, a concrete road but no landmarks really. His house is along this road approx 100 Meters on a dirt road to the left. My suggestion is you call him, or get someone to call him and ask him to meet you at the crossroads, he has done this for one of my friends before. His number is 0613502329 and 0810120259, he speaks only Thai naturally. By the way, the trip to the hide from his house is a short one but you wont find it without him.

Actually this guy has two hides, the one you want is Bor Blue as a Blue Pitta has been seen there regularly. I've seen the Pitta, Bar Backed Partridge, Grey Peacock Pheasant, Racket Tailed Treepie, Scaly Breasted Partride, and other birds here. I've seen Langaur, snakes, lots of Mouse Deer and a Sun Bear was visiting before the rain came, I never saw it.

His other hide is called Bor Kata and the Ferruginous Partridge has been photographed here, I have never tried this one but its seems good too. To use either hide is 200 BHT a day but you need to book, chances are if you go during the week you will be by yourself. Good luck.

Thanks so much for the details Geoff. If I end up staying at one of the lodges nearby I might ask them to phone Nueng for me.

BTW - I think the Racket-tailed Treepie is underrated, a real stunner as can be seen from your photo!
