In contrast to larger animals, for those of us who like our creatures on the smaller side, Northern Thailand is a wonderland with many species not found elsewhere in the Country.

It is home to a large number of colourful Cicadas, unlike the plain-winged species I am used to further south. Here are just 4 species all found at Chiang Dao Wildlife Sanctuary in April 2014:
1) Balinta tenebriscosa

2) Distantalna splendida

3) Gaeana festiva

4) Heuchys fusca Huechys philaemata (ed: see Les' post below)

Great selection Les! And thanks for the email - I guess I will have to have an oil change and check the brake pads on my old car and venture further north.

I have to report a change in id of the last specimen. Following sight of a photo of a similar species in Boulard 2013, it appears that this is Huechys philaemata, a species only previously known from Thailand from a single specimen found in Khao Koh, Phetchabun in 2007.
