The Golden Tree Snake (Chrysopelea ornata) can glide. I have seen one drop out of a tree right next to a lizard which it then chased but anyway missed. They do not drop out of the tree from the heat, they really choose to drop themselves for various reasons.

As for the dead 'snake' I am not sure even if it is a snake, might be a legless lizard based on the body shape.
But hard to say.

Great pictures. I lived there for most of the past 3 years (just moved recently) and miss it already, especially the jungle.

I'm curious as to if anyone's ever done a multi day hike other than up to Salakphet.

I know Tan and Pisit, both guides on the island and they are each very interesting individuals in themselves.

I will add that in my opinion the area around "Long beach" is probably the least trodden. The jungle from south-west to the center is great but has poachers and is not as "novel" as the parts around long beach. There are interesting features around the long beach area, including cliffs and the waves and wind always seem to be stronger on this end.

There is quite a bit of history to the smaller islands and rocky outcrops in the distance. Many Vietnamese boat people washed up here during the war.

It's my modest dream to buy myself a piece of land in the woods on Koh Chang near a stream/water source. For me this island really was paradise found, I left for personal reasons but hope to be back. However the land market on the island is sketchy, with the majority of land being por bor 5 or less-than a chanote. Chanote land is mostly near the main road or inhabited areas on either coast, not inside the jungle. I'd still consider it if/after I get myself a Thai permanent residency or passport, the prices are worth the gamble just for a slice of paradise and solitude to actually live in.

I'm not sure multi-day treks exist because the island isn't wide enough to take more than a full day to cross it.  You could probably make a 2-day trek if you wanted to spend a night in the jungle, just by taking it a bit slower.  Take a look at Ultra Trail Koh Chang if you want a long walk.
