Doi Nangmo (Mae Takhrai National Park) Chiang Mai

A great hike not far from Chiang Mai City. On the backcountry navigator app (free version) the trails are preloaded on the map, but there are many different routes, so it'd be better to download the specific gpx file from cnxtrailrunning.info/doi-nang-moh-viewpoint-trail/ so you know exactly which path to follow. Assuming you choose this path, the loop is 8.8km total.

The warning on the above website is a bit melodramatic, there is no real risk of falling to your death unless you go off the trail and start peering over the edge.  Start at the reservoir labelled as เขตอนุรักษ์ท้องฟ้ามืดชุมชนออนใต้ on Google Maps, from the parking area the trailhead is about 50 metres away, I had to search around for it for a minute or two (this is where the gpx file comes in handy), and the first couple of km are following the edge of the lake. After you have finished the hike stand on the dam and look up at where you just walked. There is no staff presence on the trail.

Total ascent/descent 650m. Max elevation 896m. Min elevation 396m. It took me 3 hours walking fast, including 20 minutes sitting at the top. Most people will take about 4-5 hours.
