Picture of the Month - Juvenile Ceratomantis saussurii

19 Aug 2011 00:00 - 17 May 2013 12:30 #676 by Anonymous

Juvenile Ceratomantis saussurii (Wood-Mason, 1876) commonly known as a Horned mantis or a spiny mantis. This is a juvenile instar and not a fully developed adult. Seen in the Dong Phaya Yen - Khao Yai World Heritage site in Thailand. It always impresses me how some mantids will face a photographer head on and show little initial fear of the camera in the first moments that you see them. Their initial "fight" rather the "flight" response.{kunena_discuss:666}
