Please ID this red fungus was created by joeisan
Hi, I'm new here and have immediately an ID request. I'm an absolute novice on fungi but want to improve. I saw this red fungi, growing on dead wood. They look like red watermelon, size about 5-6 cm.
I enclose two photos I took. Thanks for any input. Joe

Hi Joe,

its a Bracket fungi of the phylum Basidiomycota. A brave guess would be Pycnoporus sp. but its much safer to stay higher in the classification with fungi.
