Herping in Southern Kaeng Krachan

Now thats a WOW! What a great trip that was - you saw more snakes in one trip than I do a year! Fabulous!

Yes, that was surprisingly successful. Not sure if the weather in the Southern regions of the park is always this soft in the winter months, or were we just lucky? Maybe just luck with the weather, because right now the temperatures near Khao Yai are also quite high for the time of year.
I have to add that 20 of the 21 snakes were found in the dark, so that could be one reason why you do not see as many throughout the year, Paul; at least i think you don't do much night walking, or do you? (it's great for insects as well!)... And this time we really worked like machines, haha. We started from the moment it got dark and continued I think all three nights till midnight. On one of these nights we walked 8kms.

If only access inside the parks would be a bit easier at night... but I understand the risks. Though in the case of the area we were at, there were more elephants outside the park border than inside... The first night the elephant roars were the soundtrack of our herping trip.
