July 29th is International Tiger Day, also known as Global Tiger Day. A day to raise awareness for tiger conservation, held annually. It was created in 2010 at the "Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit" with the goals to promote a global system for protecting the natural habitats of tigers worldwide and to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation issues.

Whilst other matters would seem more paramount to Thailand at this particular moment in time, its immensely encouraging to see that forest encroachment and poaching issues are being actively pursued and that the HW 304 land bridges have been approved.

On July 29th, Wildlife Thailand would like to kindly request its readers and forum members to consider something written by Smith Sutibut in 2012

"The WWF reported that there were 350-700 Indochinese tigers left in the wild, and of these, 250 are in Thailand. That makes Thailand home to the biggest population of Indochinese tigers. Another 30 live in Vietnam and Cambodia, and an unknown number in Laos and Myanmar..."

... and to consider telling that fact to at least one person who has no involvement or interest with the forest or wildlife. A little act of awareness to mark the day.
