Tamron will start selling its Tamron 150-600mm F5-6.3 Di VC USD SP Lens lens from December 19. The suggested retail price is approx $1350.00.

This could be quite something for those looking to get great wildlife length at a reasonable price. The sample pictures/file circulating on the net at the moment are really quite impressive, esp on sunny days.

I would wait for some more sample pictures. But if Tamron keep the promises could be a great cheap super-tele

Interesting lens.
Would like to see some comparison with the new 80 - 400mm Nikon. Focussing speed, and sharpness.
Though, even though I would love to have the long focal length, I think for what I do it is too long. Don't think it will ever work out, shooting handheld at 600mm. Definitely not at F6.3 and in the dark jungles. Even at 400 that will be challenging, I suppose.
I'm still thinking about what I really want. And I have the time, because the budget isn't there yet anyway, ;).

For sure it needs to be a lens with vibrate reduction. But actually a large aperture would be great as well, but finding budget for that will be even more of a problem. On the other hand a bit of zoom range is welcome as well. Working with a fixed lens is not always great.

BTW, it's time for Nikon to come up with an upgrade of the 300mm F4 but with VR.
And without a huge upgrade in pricing...

Anyway, hope to hear more about this new Tamron.

Does anyone have experience with a Sigma 120-300mm F2.8?

That is certainly a fair focal length for the money, and Im assuming not too heavy aswell. Definitely a possiblity although Id be concerned about the lack of a large aperture especially in jungle conditions..

In the USA there are a few companies that rent all the long lens's. I rarely need anything near an 800 mm but saw that they charge about $40/day to rent them and they even can mail you the lens to your home address and attach return postage, would much rather do this than spend the cost of a new one.

Always admired those with a huge collection of lens's B)

This lens just won the prestigious TIPA award for best "expert" lens 2014. Canon 200-400 got best "professional" lens. No idea what difference between "expert" and "professional" is.

a good achievement indeed and real progress for the credibility of this lens.
With such massive versatility its definitely an option, I will recommend this to my sister actually as she is in the market for a 'safari' all purpose lens..

I've been using this lens for the past couple of months & I think it's exceptional value. I've published some notes & photos of my experience with it on my blog. Look forward to bringing it to Thailand in a few weeks time!

Excellent write up! I would dearly love to see a tripod shot at the 600 mm end in sunny conditions if you get a chance. How is it it physically to handle hand held at 300-400?
